The Southern Alberta LEGO User Group or SALUG is a group of like-minded adults based in the greater Calgary area who share an interest in LEGO®. The members all have a wide variety of interests and tastes in LEGO® in a wide variety of themes.
Adults Fans of LEGO® are commonly and amiably referred to as AFOL’s. There is a good chance that you will hear this term used if you spend enough time in the hobby! There is no defined level of LEGO® interest for a person to be part of this group, as it may be a weekend hobby or a life-fullling obsession.
We typically have meetings once a month where we can share MOC’s (my own creations), discuss upcoming shows and events, and have an all-around enjoyable time.
Other meeting activities include Parts Drafts, Building Competitions and Buy-Sell-Trade meetings.
When we first started in 2002 with 3 members, we had no idea that we would continue to grow and expand to have over 30 members from Central and Southern Alberta. The focus of SALUG is enjoying the hobby of being a LEGO® enthusiast and to share our enjoyment with as many people as we can.
We have been lucky in the past several years to display our own LEGO® creations at several locations. We display annually at Calgary Expo, Summer Skirmish, and various events at Heritage Park. We also organize our own LEGO® show in Calgary called Brick Roundup, where we bring together many AFOL’s from Canada and the United States. You may have also seen SALUG at some of the local LEGO® shows and building contests held throughout different community halls such as Silversprings and Edgemont.
We look forward to sharing our LEGO® hobby with new friends in the future and seeing where this hobby can take each of us as LEGO® enthusiasts.
